Это в dpkg есть Required, Recommended и Suggected, а в rpm всё
задано жестко и исправлению не поддается без потери
совместимости (Дмитрий, поравьте если ошибаюсь). Обходной путь
- рабивка на бОльшее количество пакетов...

Неоднократно натыкался на неадекватно выставленные dependencies,
покуда пользуешься rpm и делаешь --force это мало интересует,
но когда стараешься пользоваться apt вылавливаются приколы в духе
postgresql-contribs depends on emacs-common , который не установлен.
Комизма в ситуации таков - я не хочу пользоваться emacs, намерен
пользоваться xemacs. При этом emacs-common противоречит xemacs-common,
а postgresql-contribs про xemacs не знают. Хотя лично я думаю, что
спокойно будут работать в xemacs без всяких претензий. =)
Вопрос: уже придумали иерархию dependencies или еще нет? Я о том, что
очевидно неплохо бы иметь два (а лучше более) типа dependencies - те без
которых не работает, те которые ... ну и т.д. =) Формат пока не смотрел. =)

Помогает вешать баги на пакеты с предложением отбить (скажем)
emacs-зависимую часть в отдельный пакет и заодно попробовать
виртуализировать зависимость на *emacs; как более жесткий вариант
-- отменить поиск зависимостей для подкапетов -contrib при сборке
(maintainer-side).
