сделай /dev/lp0 writeable для группы и включи в нее пользователя.
или сделай /dev/lp0 writeable для всех - но это хуже.
По поводу русского - когда у меня встала такая проблема, то я просто пользовал
recode из black cat. вообщем поищи ее.
Либо можно сконфигурить отдельный принтер с отдельным фильтом, который и будет
выполнять перекодирование.
Подобная ситауция, кажется, была описана в printing-howto.
Просто так как я этим часто не пользовался, то мне не влом было делать
вручную....
Если уж ОЧЕНЬ большая нужда, а самому никак не получается, тогда скажи, я у
себя попробую насторить :)
