Посоветуйте, пожалуйста, способ для импорта уже переведенных
сообщений из po-файла в обновленный pot-файл.

Ну, наверное, не в pot, а в новый po-файл, соответствующий обновившемуся
pot. Это делает msgmerge. А во многих случаях достаточно сказать в
каталоге po/ (убедившись, что там лежит тот ru.po, который нужно
обновить)
make ru.pox
В ru.pox получится обновленный файл - его можно положить на место ru.po
и править.

Спасибо еще раз, учту на будущее. В моем случае не прошло - нет
makefile в /po.
