Да, есть такое безобразие.
На самом деле уши даже понятны -- достаточно посмотреть на Motif
и вспомннить, какие телевизеры стояли на самых дохдых спарках.
И потом для контрасту вспомнить "народные ПК" с win95, 14",
640x480...
Другое дело, что расходовать половину высоты полоски drop-down
menu на пустую каемочку даже при мегапиксельных разрешениях жаба
давит. Я вон сказал gtk, чтоб шрифтик поуменьшил, а то совсем
как-то некомфортно было.
Причем есть сомнения, что Sun будет что-то особенно пытаться
менять -- см. п.1...
