Кажется, да:
$ mplayer -fs -vo fbdev file.avi
если собран с поддержкой fbdev

Да. -fs -vo xv - просто большое окно, -fs -vo sdl - fullscreen (в
sdl можно переключать fullscreen по 'f')
hint - в man mplayer об этом прекрасно написано.

Зависит от драйвера вывода (-vo), опций сборки, видяхи/драйвера.
В общем, читайте доки, пробуйте, опишите детали.
PS Только без обид на отсылание к документации - там самая лучшая
информация.
