Крайний случай -- встать с простого CD-ROM (одного на втором
шлейфе), собрать ядро 2.4.18 с _отключенным_ в конфиге "Use DMA
by default" и воткнутой поддержкой VIA (наверное, просто не
выкинутой), подцепить CD-RW? Муторно, но очень похоже на
железную проблему :(((
