И все же лучше переходите на отдельные логины. Настройки легко
копируются, а все извраты, которыми в "мире" dos/win заменяется
нормальная многопользовательская работа -- именно извраты.

Видите ли, или почту надо будет шифровать, или она будет разве
что "защищена". Поэтому приучайте их пользоваться своими
логинами -- потому как кроме почты обычно очень быстро находятся
другие частные вещи. А вместо того, чтобы изобретать велосипед
на уровне приложений ("редактор с паролями", etc) -- всяко лучше
воспользоваться преимуществами платформы, раз уж мигрируете.
И, кстати, ничто (кроме памяти) не мешает запускать несколько
X-сессий и блокировать те, хозяева которых отошли на минутку --
попробуйте зайти в свободной консоли и сделать startx -- :1
:)
