это область памяти записью и чтением и парой тройкой спефечных для видеокарт функций типа работы с текстом или возврат информации о видеокарте-мониторе.
самый примитивный способ работать с видеокартой в граф. режиме.
почитать можно в локументации к ядру и освежить положение вещей в исходниках ядра.
