Какой кристал? 42xx работают вроде (4232 гонял).

Aureal не посоветую, мучался друг с MX300 :( Т.е. работает, но с
автоматизмом и перспективами проблемы.

Работает; лучше ALSA. Только стоит оно $7--8. Pro: драйвера
раздают с сайта производителя; contra: они не идеально ровные --
т.е. последние 5.64 у меня под 2.4/egcs-2.91.66 работали
идеально, а на альтовском ядре и gcc-2.9[56] были проблемки
(впрочем, может, это все же xmms -- уже неактуально, ALSA
работает вообще великолепно).
[CREATIVE skip -- Live хвалят, Audigy не в курсе, старые -- на
любителя, но вроде работали]
Кстати, стяните свежее ядро да посмотрите, какие OSS-драйвера в
наличии и что в комментариях (cd /usr/src/linux; make xconfig и
дальше по тексту) плюс сверьтесь с alsa-project.org .
