Вобщем ситуация с шрифтами Веди такая:
1) Шрифты там кривые. Вся служебная информация практически с потолка вписана. поэтому ставить их надо аккуратно и вручную.
2) Часть шрифтов там не Unicode. А все unicode шрифты, уоторые я смотрел отхачены (в смысле руссские буквы повторяются в западноевропейской части основной таблицы) другими словами качественных универсальных шрифтов там по пальцам пересчитать.
Соответственно способ установки такой:
1) Качаем шрифт.
-pfaedit шрифт
-жмем любую русскую букву и смотрим что там набито в этом месте. Если русские буквы на месте, порядок, если нет - откладываем на доработку. -создаем каталог с отобранными шрифтами в стандартном дереве шрифтов /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/MyTTF и делаем в нем ссылку encodings.dir
-переименовываем шрифты в нижний регистр и короткие названия стандарта 8.3
-mkttfdir -o fonts.dir -m 10
-редактируем fonts.dir так чтобы на каждый шрифт приходилась строчки типа указанных и исправляем количество шрифтов в первой строке
bandy.ttf -vedi-BandyCyr-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-koi8-r
bandy.ttf -vedi-BandyCyr-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-microsoft-cp1251
-копируем fonts.dir в fonts.scale
- добавляем каталог в xfs конфиг - chkfontpath --add /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/MyTTF
-service xfs restart
xfontsel и далее gimp должны все увидеть
