Не пытайтесь получать и читать почту под root - это не работает,
причем для Вашей же пользы - прочтите раздел о безопасности в
руководстве. Основную работу следует выполнять из-под обычного
пользователя, используя root только для администрирования
системы (установка пакетов, изменение общесистемных настроек,
...).
