Лично я на Вашем месте начал бы с установки ntpd. Каким образом, apt или
rpm или самому собрать из исходников -- Вам виднее, я здесь не советчик.

"До того", на мой сугубо личный взгляд, не нужно читать ничего. Но если очень
хочется, можно почитать свежий "Коммерсант" или хотя бы картинки там
глянуть, т. к. пишут и рисуют весьма забавно и повышают настроение.
А хорошее настроение -- это главное при настройке ntp ;-)
Испортить же что-либо неправильной установкой ntpd, полагаю, непросто.
