Обычный способ - сначала выбрать настройки, с которыми хотя бы
как-то работает, а потом подстраивать под свой монитор. Для
подстройки нужно прописать в /etc/X11/XF86Config
(/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 для XFree 4.x) в секции Monitor
соответствующие возможностям монитора значения HorizSync и
VertRefresh; после этого будет выбраны допустимые режимы из
стандартного набора. Для более тонкой настройки можно применить
программу videogen из одноименного пакета.
