При переходе к X 4.1.0 еще нужно новое ядро 2.4.x (требуются новые
модули DRI). Например, с того же Юниора, откуда брали X.
Проверить можно командой glinfo - должно быть:
GL_RENDERER: Mesa DRI Rage128 ...
