Как вариант - воспользоваться оболочками для cdrecord & Co отображающими
их вывод в более удобном человеку виде. Например - xcdroast.

Это формат UDF (под Win замысловато зовущийся DirectCD). В Linux он
читается. Хотя мне этого пока не удалось - все не те UDFы попадались. Дело
в том что есть UDF c компрессией (не иначе очередные происки Microsoft ;)
- вот он в Linux не поддерживается. С записью пока никак :( Но обещают
добавить ее в будущем в сидиромные драйвера.
