Во-первых, если squid используется в качестве HTTP акселератора, то можно
отказаться от его использования вообще. Для использования HTTP
акселератора должны иметься *весьма веские* причины. Иначе с ним будет
больше проблем, чем реальной пользы.
Во-вторых, если нужен именно прокси, то лучше squid'а ничего не найти. То,
что у него базовый протокол HTTP/1.0 -- не страшно, т.к. он поддерживает
большинство реально необходимых возможностей HTTP/1.1. Просто ответы по
протоколу HTTP/1.0 кэшировать гораздо легче, чем HTTP/1.1.
В третьих, если используется Russian Apache, можно попробовать
использовать модуль mod_accel (улучшенный аналог mod_proxy, который
используется на сайтах Rambler). Модуль аннонсируется в рассылке
apache-talk (архив на сайте www.lexa.ru).
