Проблемы с glob, как известно, не у него, а у архитектуры самого glob.
Т.е обычный glob не имеет средств по ограничению "глубины погружения" и,
соответственно, расходу памяти.
Впрочем, команда OpebBSD добавила (в свою libc) флажок GLOB_LIMIT, который
ограничивает "pattern match output" значением ARG_MAX, и теперь использует
в своем ftpd.
Поскольку в glibc этого флажка нет (и вряд ли будет, ибо это больше похоже
на хак), в нашем пакете ftpd-BSD (а также других ftp-серверах) предложен
другой вариант: ограничить использование памяти ftp-сервером с помощью
параметра rlimit_as конфигурации сервиса для xinetd.
