Да, разумеется.
1) Есть устройства (скажем, /dev/hdb)
2) Команды:
tar
dump|restore
dd
split
mkisofs
mt
Этим сочеианием простых команд можно устроить "на вкус
и цвет".
Н лучшее устройство для backup - лента.
