Метод настраиваемый.
По умолчанию - то что наспрашивает nmbd (то, что
стартует с сервисом SMB).
Возможны опросы через WINS и прописанные отдельно серверы.
В неструктурированной сетке в клиентских системах Win
NT и Win 2000 лучше держать включённым Computer browser
и Server, соотв в MacOS, Linux и т.п. - держать
взведённой Samba (даже не предоставляя никаких ресурсов).
Причины - в ДНК этого протокола.
P.S. не пугайтесь, если имена и т.п. "прохрюкаются"
через минуту-другую, это нормально.

Вот вот, этот чертов протокол маздайных сетей не работает а
именно "прохрюкивается" по другому оно не умеет, ззараза.
