Извините, что вклиниваюсь в вашу беседу, но можно пойти другим путём.
Нужно всего лиш прописать вот эту строку, в начале скрипта загрузки самбы (скрипт в /etc/init.d/smb):
export TMPDIR=/tmp
У меня она так и работает.
