А у меня самба вмварная. Я ее вообще не трогал. Вроде бы, на этапе
установки вмвари указывал название рабочей группы (Workgroup).
Больше ничего не делал.

ping-ом и делаются :-))))
Там свой ping имеется и даже есть комманда route.
Можно например посмотреть маршруты (route print).
Да! Еще есть tracert - аналог линуксного traceroute.
