При запуске многих приложений появляются на консоли такие сообщения:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-VidModeExtension" missing on display ":0.0".
или в роли extersion могут быть Shape, Render...
Например, VidModeExtension не позволяет приложениям (в частности, q3)
переключать режимы работы.
Можно ли это все включить? Как?
И еще вопрос есть: с переходом на XFree 4.х.х перестал работать dpms вообще
- при том, что драйвер говорит initializing DPMS, DPMS initialized...
И при этом:
$ xset +dpms
server does not have extension for +dpms option
Если же поставить в XF86Config-4 Option "DPMS", то все равно не будет
расширения сервера, НО монитор БУДЕТ уходить в спящий режим по таймауту.
Очень странное поведение...

Посмотрите в /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 в секцию "Module" - должен быть указан
модуль "extmod". У меня после установки эта секция выглядит вот так:
Section "Module"
# This loads the DBE extension module.
Load "dbe"
# This loads the miscellaneous extensions module, and disables
# initialisation of the XFree86-DGA extension within that module.
SubSection "extmod"
#Option "omit xfree86-dga"
EndSubSection
