Дело в том, что я читал те письма, в которых это уже обсуждалось.
И естественно я поменял sound-slot-0 на sb. Просто не написал об этом.
Так вот. Не работает все равно! Точнее сказать, если запустить xmms,
то он играет. А вот wav-файлы - ни в какую не воспроизводятся!

Действительно это помогло. Сообщения в 12-й консоли исчезли.
Но wav-ы не воспроизводятся. При этом теперь никто не ругается
в логи. :-(
И к тому же alsa-модули (если использовать их) ведут себя аналогично.
Это в REbeta (синхронизировал вчера!).
В Sisyphus-е с alsa все работает.
