Что-то не было отформатировано. DrakFloppy не мог запросить ядро 2.2.17 в свежеустановленной системе. Лучше было запустить DrakBoot и разобраться с загрузчиками или вставить CD, нажать F1 и набрать rescue. Пока мне, увы, непонятен Ваш случай. По крайней мере, в наших конфигурациях проблем с UDMA не наблюдается.
