Если пользователь, не знакомый с тонкостями MS Windows попытается установить что-то вручную, или какое-либо не поддерживаемое (еще) оборудование, то он столкнется с аналогичными, если не хуже, проблемами. Для того, что бы диагностировать проблему, по крайней мере в Linux, достаточно документации хотя бы на английском. А для неопытных пользователей, при условии, что дистрибутив не битый, существуют варианты установки "с настройкой", которые ничуть не сложнее аналогов в Windows.
