Пакет ed нужен для программы /usr/bin/gccbug, входящей в пакет gcc.
А для чего нужен gccbug, догадайтесь сами. :)

Попробуйте попользоваться системой, выполнив все те действия, которые
обычно Вам приходится совершать. Если ничего дурного не заметили, значит,
в Вашей системе все нормально (в рамках Ваших же требований к системе).
