Не так давно на tty1 регулярно стало появляться следующее сообщение:
ext2_file_write: Called without semaphore protection. Applying quick e2compr
fix.

Нет, это Вы VMware запускаете.
Винт тут не причем.
Мне ничего не известно об отрицательных последствиях этого, однако фраза
настораживает...

Забавно, но у меня при запуске VMware ничего подобного не
происходило... :-\
А я ее в свое время весьма интенсивно юзал.....
А которая VMware? У меня стояла VMware-1.1.2-364.LinuxInstitute.i386.rpm
из поставки MDK-RE.
