Здравствуйте.
Может кто подскажет?
Вопрос такой, как в настройках mplayer-ра (вернее его кодеков) установить
качество воспроизведения. А то машина старовата иногда тормозит.
Хотя бы где можно почитать а то офицальное руководство смотрел-вроде
нет.

Читайте man, в частности раздел DECODING/FILTERING OPTIONS. Например ключ
-sws <software scaler type> (see -vf scale option too)
This option sets the quality (and speed, respectively) of the
software scaler, with the -zoom option. For example with x11
or other outputs which lack hardware acceleration. Possible
settings are:
