Вообще подобный вопрос уже рассматривался на http://www.linux.org.ru/
,как на форуме ,так и в FAQ, но похоже что вы там не часто бываете.Под нужным софтом
подразумевается ядерная поддержка и регулярный выпуск дровишек.Nvidia
драйверы выпускает довольно быстро.В связи с этим у пользователей ATI
можете посмотреть проблему с Doom 3 в FAQ Aльта.Если посмотреть на
ядерную поддержку ,то при конфигурировании ядер 2.6.0-0.1.14 и
2.4.22-1.2129 видно ,что она(ядерная поддержка) появляется только в
первом(2.6).
О проблемах.У Nvidia часто возникают проблемы с AGP8X ,фреймбуфером
,не работает GLX ,не грузится X-сервер.
ATI:Проблемы с 3-D графикой ,мало документации.
Тем не менее при возникновении подобного вопроса ,большинство
Линуксойдов выбирают Nvidia.
