В прошлый раз образ который был по фтп не работал вообще нигде. А что-то
с торрента нормально сработало. Между ними разница была в том что
разделы, создаваемые на флешке были с разными правами.
Ещё помню проблема с syslinux и mbr флешки была.
А dd просто пишет образ на флешку как он есть. То есть остальное
пространство будет обнулено.

Это вы про те старые материнки , у которых даже в Биосе нету такой
функции? А вот про разные флешки я сомневаюсь, мне кажется тут больше
играет роль собирающего образ.
