Уж если так хочется собрать свое ядро
А почему не взять стандартный конфиг от какого-нить альтовского ядра и
не начать выкидывать из него понемножку явно не нужные части. Например
нету у вас PCMCIA или Gigabit Ethernet -- отключайте, нету у вас
чипсета SiS -- отключайте и т.п. Вероятность собрать вполне работающее
ядро повышается.
Ну и альтовские системы основаны на RPM, поэтому вполне разумно
собирать RPMки с ядром. Это позволит иметь одновременно несколько ядер
с автоматической настройкой заголовков и видеодрайверов на этапе
загрузки системы.
