Проблема действительно существует. Это проблема вашего драйвера
видеокарты, который выключает видео сигнал, но не выключает подсветку
(backlight). Но существуют и решения.
Например, если у вас карта ati то есть radeontool:
http://fdd.com/software/radeon/
Для себя я решил проблему перейдя с драйвера ati на radeon. У меня
xorg-6.8.2.
Если карте не ati, то поищите по вашей видеокарте, может найдёте нужный
патч, тогда можно будет дальше смотреть...
