Да, тут спокойно можно обойтись самим rpm, если этих самых пакетов
всего несколько штук.
Если их наберётся хотябы с десяток, то я всё же предпочитаю создать
локальный репозитарий и дальше орудовать аптом. Так удобнее, на мой
взгляд. Тем более что строка с genbasedir у меня давно в history
валяется.

Тоже вариант. Но я всё же предпочитаю через апт, а полуночным
командером я пользуюсь, чтобы вытащить какой-нибудь файл из пакета,
или прости содержимое просмотреть.
Я раньше, ещё на Весне2001, тоже пользовался всякими rpm-drake, но с
тех пор, как вышел Мастер 2.0 пользуюсь исключительно apt, rpm & mc.
