Вы были правы, что ошибки появились в личных настройках KDE. Как только снес
всё и заново проинициализировал, так сразу и заработало. В том числе и
установки по поводу ? и /.
Да, заодно узнал, что за "RENDER extension" такой. Оказалось, что просто не
загружались никакие дополнительные модули для X. Но возник вопрос: что лучше
использовать для начальной настройки X? xf86config мне только все испортил.
