У меня на Athlon 800, G200 8Mb, 256 Mb, XFree86-4.0.3 на 1280x1024 все
просто летает. Процессор кушает на 30% или меньше. Включено YUV ускорение.
Может дело в XFree86?

Советую обновить Х до 4-й версии, т.к. в нем добавлена поддержка
воспроизведения видео - там оно работает намного быстрее.
