Абсолютно верно - в GD.
Я сделал так:
взял русский патч, поправил spec и пересобрал rpm.
Это легко.
Где взять русский патч? Ну хотя бы на диске с "аппендиксом".
Можно найти уже готовый rpm.
на filesearch.ru поиск gd*russian*rpm
