Два раза пробовал следовать этому совету (на разных машинах)
и оба раза система не могла после этого загрузиться.
Спасался chroot'ом.
Мне гарантировано помогает добавление "export LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8" в
"/root/.bashrc".

1. установить terminus-fonts-bitmap
2. отредактировать /etc/sysconfig/consolefonf
а именно вставить туда строку SYSFONT=ter-k14n
Вот собственно, все, что в этом рецепте
Употреблять после ребута :)
Проверено. Работает.
