Hello,

This is my first message on this group. Congrats and thanks to the
developers of AltLinux, this is a great job. I've been using AltLinux
for the last 4 years and it is just great.

Now, my little problem:

I use WebVZ for configuring via web new containers, and no matter what
precreated template I use, if I select "Start up the container after
creating it", I always get an "Oops". The sistem hangs apparently, I
cannot start, stop or destroy any container, I cannot kill the hangded
PIDs of vzquota (that sets the limits for the new container) and I
cannot kill the vzctl start <ID> of new container.

If I issue reboot or shutdown -r now nothing happens.
I have to reboot with the RESUIB method (Ctrl+Alt+Sys Rq+RESUIB), and
push the reset too after. It also works remounting in read only mode and
"echo 1 > /proc/sys/ kernel/sysrq","echo b > /proc/sysrq-trigger".

Any ideea ? Is the problem with WebVZ or with AltLinux kernel or OpenVZ
? I am using ALT Linux Sisyphus (20081222), kernel 2.6.27-ovz-smp-alt1.1.
If the problem is with WebVZ, what other alternative for a web
management of OpenVZ do I have, excluding HyperVM/Vtonf ?

p.s. will there appear, in the Sisyphus apt, a alterator-openvz ?
p.p.s. I tried installing the stable version of ALTLinux Server 4.0 and
altlinux-server-lite-without-repo-i586-20080917, but my board is kind of
new, having ICH10.. and it won't work in any way, enhanced sata as ide
nor compatible sata.

Didn't try that one, our build server currently runs this 2.6.26:
http://www.unsafe.ru/lakostis/RPMS/ALTLinux/kernel-2.6.26/repo/x86_64/RPMS.hasher/
and production systems run 2.6.18-ovz-smp-alt*.M40.*.
AFAIK 2.6.270-ovz is still considered strictly experimental.

With Sisyphus, one's currently re-developed as alterator-mkve;
didn't try that either. In Server 4.0 alterator-ovz was
considered as a default web-based management tool.

This *might* help (or maybe not):
ftp://ftp.linux.kiev.ua/pub/Linux/ALT/beta/server/20080821-mike
(a build with newer 2.6.18 kernel and other minor updates)

Yes, that is right, but 2.6.18 does not work, I got a brand new board ..
with brand new issues (ICH10).

Server 4.0 is quite stable and good, but i can't install with the isos
there, the kernel does not see the SATA controller. (Neither enp,
enp-lite, 20080821-mike or server)
I'll try 2.6.26 and If it works I'll post back info, if it does not,
I'll start the containers after creating. The thing is I get oopses only
with webvz, if I create by hand.. all works well.

Thank you verry much Michael.

*sigh* as always with Intel's inside.

Ah. But there's another one closer to 5.0 package base:
ftp://ftp.altlinux.org/pub/people/legion/files/iso

Let's rule out potentially kernel-related troubles first,
then look at mgmt tools.

Is the same. That is what I installed. It has 2.6.25 by base, but when
you get the ovz kernel, you just have 2.6.27.
Now I'm trying 2.6.26 you gave me earlier.

Exactly...

Well, I rather praise (and blame) lakostis@ for that kernel. :)

Thanks !

The ideea is it's working, with 2.6.26 of lakostis. I saw he has some
2.6.24, 2.6.18, i`ll try them too. But I just bet with 2.6.18 won't
boot. The board did not work with any of the 4.0 release iso-s (eg.
Server, OfficeServer, Desktop), nor with the ISO's for server in beta,
except legion iso. I'll try and keep you posted.

Thanks again !

Well, it installs, but in the Sisyphus repo there is no openvz kernel
foir 2.6.25, and when i did apt-get.. i got a 2.6.27 for a present :)

Would be nice to figure out what's wrong with 2.6.27...
could you at least post a bug in https://bugzilla.altlinux.org?
