ну, "исправлять и дополнять", ведь.

а может стоит пойти по стандартному пути: переписать на sgml и
генерить paged html и большой html, как и везде? заодно и упаковать можно
будет.
пусть и объем, но удобно. что не мешает быть рядом будет постраничной
дока. главное здесь - рядом :)
