IMCO это скорее серьёзный недостаток для сервера на данный момент.

Зависит от того, насколько нужна нетривиальная маршрутизация
на сервере.

Вот эт мож да. Хотя первый пункт остаётся применимым -- ядра
2.6.x традиционно приобрели кучу дыр и по сей день их ещё
протряхивают.
Иными словами, могу порекомендовать ALM2.4 с ядром vs-smp и
ftp://ftp.altlinux.org/pub/people/mike/vserver
