Давайте еще раз.
Novell не купила компания Microsoft. Ее купила Attachmate - компания,
бизнес которой лежит в области Unix. Microsoft же досталась лишь
"некоторая собственность". Причем, оказывается, руководители Novell
все-таки не такие глупые -

Attachmate тоже полно своих юристов и они не такие глупые, чтоб
покупать бизнес который может попасть под патентную угрозу.
Скорее всего Microsoft выкупила у Novell какие-то патенты, угрожающие
ее собственному бизнесу. Достаточно давно, когда Novell давала
разьяснения по сделке с MS там было такое положение: Novell ведет
текущие судебные процессы против MS, а MS против Novell. Тем
соглашением они договаривались о ненападении на клиентов друг друга.
Судя по всему у Novell были какие-то патенты против MS. Да такими
делами многие компании в штатах занимаются. Постоянно друг друга
грызут. Мне кажется, то MS тут просто подстраховалась и выкупила это
все, чтобы потом не попадаться под судебные преследования
"наследников" Novell.
А насчет будущего Linux - есть такой консорциум, как Open Invention
Network. В него входит много крупных компаний, делающих бизнес на
Linux. Если кто-то начнет судебные процессы против Linux - он рискует
попасть под перекрестный огонь всех компаний, входящих в OIN. А оно
надо?
Так что лично мне не кажется, что что-то изменится принципиальным
образом. Единственное, что пока непонятно, это судьба SUSE и openSUSE,
потому что это очень хорошие дистрибутивы и жалко, если они что-то
потеряют.
