Это Вы нормальное дополнение так и не попробовали. Мне когда
лень ткнуть CapsLock, который переключает раскладку -- долблю
несколько раз Tab, который в моём zsh начинает перебирать
варианты.

Ctrl-s как раз изрядно тормозит, ускоряет в mc (и то плохо) Alt-s.
PS: когда-то помимо iso9660 extfs сделал ещё m3u extfs...
mc у меня был вылизанный весьма тщательно :) но zsh удобней
и намного экономичней по времени.
Но не настаиваю, на вкус и цвет ракушки разные.
