Сгодится ли Вам ответ? Пример-то специфичен:
- это не программа, а сборник;
- его никогда не продавали целенаправленно (с активным
маркетингом и sales force), скорее OEM и не особо
"озадаченные" продажи, не ориентированные на захват
рынка или максимализацию прибыли;
- первый год существования ALT Linux -- 2001, при этом
по факту продукт имеет пару поколений "вглубь истории"
под названием Linux-Mandrake Russian Edition
(соответственно несколько сдвинут этап создания
узнаваемой марки).
Вообще же могу заметить, что коробочные версии потихоньку
отживают своё по мере повышения доступности широкополосного
интернета и сползания от суппортных талончиков к контрактам
нужного вида и уровня на внедрение/поддержку.
Бишь сейчас может быть на них проще не ориентироваться
для открытого продукта.
PS: у нас внутри конторы этот вопрос является в некоторой
степени предметом разногласий, но вынужден заметить, что
оппонирующий человек, будучи старше, замечен и в ряде
других просчётов -- например, объёме главной страницы
