Посмотрите linux_stats.pl из mrtg contribs. У меня выдаёт вот что:
$ /var/lib/mrtg/linux_stats.pl eth0

Т.е. в первой строке - RX, во второй строке - TX:

По этим данным (RX/TX) строится график.
