Точно умеют? Из любого места диска?
А зачем тогда mpd какая-то "база данных" и какой-то "путь к музыке"?

Секунд чего?
Вчера поставил, долго думал, как убедить mpd в том, что музыка, вообще
говоря, может быть где угодно. Не понял.
Собрал kmp - понял, что кто-то из них двоих не умеет русских букв и
добавлять музыку с произвольного места.
Остальных клиентов качать было влом, переключился в вмварьный сарж,
поставил всё, что у них там есть. ncmpc показал вопросики в интерфейсе и
отправился лесом. Оба гткшных (gmpc, glurp) произвольный файл добавить
тоже не смогли и пошли туда же.
