Вот как выглядит меню:

Во всех подменю второго уровня ПОЧТИ все иконки одинаковые. В каждой
категории свои, но одинаковые (унаследованы от вышестоящего пункта).
Причем не все, а почти все. Как такое может быть? Раньше такого точно не
было.
У нас есть замечательный /usr/share/desktop-directories где описаны
категории меню, и там указаны иконки, и они все есть в
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/categories в виде ссылок на реально
имеющиеся файлы.
Пристальный взгляд вроде бы показывает следующее:
из /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/categories все файлы с именами вида
application-NAME.png
отображаются, а все файлы с именами вида
application-SUBCATEGORY-NAME.png
не отображаются.
