Это уже либо не нужно, либо задается через MODULE=eepro100 в
соответствующем options (см. ниже)

какой компакт был, 2.3?
начиная с версии 3.0 в дистрибутиве используется etcnet и все настройки
его хранятся в /etc/net/соответствующий-интерфейс
