Т.е. насколько понимаю, начинался он на xine. Потом появился GStreamer и
Totem решил быть первым и основным плеером на GSt (и стал).
Видимо он не потерялд исторической возможности играть через xine.
Возможно это выбирается при компиляции - не знаю.
В Сизифе Тотем, кажется, играет исключительно чере GStreamer.
Собственно - посмотри какие именно пакеты GStreamer у тебя стоят и
зарегистрированны. М.б. там нет каких-то из которым нужны DVD.
Также попробуй gst-register - у меня он в свое время вылетал из-за
segmentation fault в gstreamer-xine плагине - и регистаций на этом
вылетала. Убил плагин - и вернулась поддержка Ogg, mp3 и прочего амарока :-)

Посмотри файлы конфигурации - вполне возможно они простопо другому
называтся. Когда я собирал, например, rox-filer пришлось подправлять.
