- проверьте что в /etc/fstab, /etc/sysconfig/grub2 не используется
что-то подобное /dev/sdХ, а везде используется UUID
- складывается впечатление, что на съемном диске есть какой-то свой
загрузчик c initrd, может lilo? и вы с него загружаететсь
