Я пользуюсь powersaved. Я его настроил так, чтобы в режиме работы от
батареи он отключал одно ядро процессора Core 2 Duo и понижал в два
раза тактовую частоту. За счет этого получилось значительно продлить
время автономной работы.
У него также есть приятный фронтенд - kpowersave. Он позволяет
производить настройку параметров питания и скринсейверов через GUI и
показывает состояние батареи в трее. Плюс засыпание в память и на
диск.
А cpufreqd обновлялся последний раз два года назад, и скорее всего уже
давно устарел.
